Don’s Variegated is a Florida flame azalea with cream-to-gold markings on the leaves. Native azaleas with variegated foliage are uncommon. In spring it opens fragrant golden-orange trumpets, often before the leaves are fully out. It is deciduous, so it drops its leaves in winter.
Give it morning sun or dappled shade and acid soil that drains. A wet hole will rot it. Water the first year. It can reach 6–10 feet.
🌎 Zones: 6–9.
☀️ Sunlight: Morning sun to part shade. Keep it out of hot afternoon sun.
💧 Soil & Care: Acid, well-drained soil. Water during dry stretches the first year. Do not plant it in a soggy bed.
🌸 Blooms: Fragrant golden-orange trumpets. Spring. Variegated foliage the rest of the growing season.
