Developed by the LSU AgCenter fig breeding program, the LSU Champagne Fig is a rare and outstanding yellow-skinned variety prized for its exceptionally sweet, honey-flavored fruit and dependable production. It’s one of the few light-colored figs bred to thrive in the Gulf Coast and other warm, humid regions — making it a perfect fit for home gardeners across Louisiana and the Deep South.

This variety produces medium-sized golden-yellow figs with amber flesh and a smooth, rich taste that’s perfect for fresh eating, preserves, or drying. It’s vigorous yet compact, growing well both in the ground or in containers. LSU Champagne is self-fertile, disease-resistant, and noted for its strong yields even in humid climates where other figs may struggle.

🌿 Fig-Specific Note on Leaf Rust 🌿

Fig rust (small orange-brown spots on leaves) is a very common fungal issue on fig trees, especially in humid Southern climates like ours in Louisiana. It primarily affects the leaves, is not deadly to the tree, and does not impact fruit production long-term.

New leaves typically emerge healthy after removing affected ones. We inspect plants before shipping, but minor rust can develop or become more visible in transit. It is easily managed with good care (remove spotted leaves, improve airflow, avoid overhead watering).
