Brussels Sprouts

Availability: Available for pickup at our Broussard garden center.

Brussels sprouts are a cool-season vegetable. Small heads form along the stalk as nights cool down. In south Louisiana, plant them for fall and winter, not summer. Heat makes them loose and bitter. They want full sun and soil that drains and stays fed.

Water when the top inch is dry. Harvest the lower sprouts first as they firm up. A hard freeze can sweeten them. A long hot spell will not.
