Grow your own coffee plant! Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica) is an easy, good-looking houseplant with glossy, dark green evergreen leaves. This one comes in a 5 inch pot.

Give it bright, indirect light, and keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. It loves humidity, so a pebble tray or an occasional misting helps. Coffee plants don't like cold, so keep it above 50°F. In South Louisiana, that means bringing it indoors for the winter. With good care, a mature plant can bloom with fragrant white flowers and grow red coffee cherries after a few years. Indoors it usually reaches 4 to 6 feet tall, and you can prune it to keep it smaller.
