The Golden Oakland™ Holly (Ilex x meserveae 'Monvila') stands out as a sophisticated evergreen specimen, distinguished by its luminous gold-and-green variegated foliage that delivers visual interest throughout the year. This upright, pyramidal cultivar reaches 15-20 feet in height with a 10-12 foot spread, making it exceptionally versatile for hedging, screening, or focal plantings. Hardy across USDA Zones 6-9, it performs optimally in full sun to partial shade with well-drained, slightly acidic soil and moderate moisture. The Golden Oakland™ combines ornamental appeal with practical resilience—its deer-resistant nature and evergreen habit reduce maintenance demands while enhancing landscape structure during dormant seasons. An excellent alternative to conventional holly selections for discerning gardeners seeking distinctive character and year-round presence.
