Native Mayhaw

The Native Mayhaw thrives in USDA Hardiness Zones 6-9 and produces small to medium fruits with vibrant red skin and distinctly tart, juicy flesh. While self-fertile, cross-pollination with additional trees enhances fruit production. Expect harvest during late spring through early summer, typically April through June. These fruits excel in jelly and preserve-making thanks to their exceptional pectin levels and characteristic tartness, though fully ripe specimens are equally enjoyable fresh. Native to wetland ecosystems, Mayhaw trees demonstrate remarkable tolerance for periodic flooding, making them ideal specimens for landscape positions adjacent to water features, ponds, or stream banks.
