The Prime-Ark® Horizon is a primocane-fruiting blackberry cultivar developed by the University of Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station. Released in 2020, it offers several notable features:
- Yield Potential: Exhibits very high yield potential, particularly on floricanes, with research plots reporting yields exceeding 30,000 pounds per acre in some years.
- Fruit Characteristics: Berries are large, firm, and have a good, light aromatic flavor. They retain excellent firmness in storage, with limited leakage and decay, making them suitable for fresh consumption and processing.
- Plant Traits: The plants are semi-thornless, with a 45% reduction in thorn density compared to 'Prime-Ark® 45'. They demonstrate good plant health, with no observed instances of orange rust or anthracnose. Winter hardiness is comparable to 'Ouachita', tolerating temperatures as low as 1°F with minimal injury.
