Variegated Cast Iron Plant

Availability: Available for pickup at our Broussard garden center.

The Variegated Cast Iron Plant (Aspidistra elatior 'Variegata') has dark green, strap-like leaves striped with cream and white. It's one of the toughest plants you can grow in deep shade, so it's a great pick for shady beds, under trees and in containers where most plants struggle. This one comes in a 1 gallon pot.

It's evergreen in zones 8 to 10, so it keeps its leaves year round here in South Louisiana (zone 9a). It grows slowly to about 2 to 3 feet tall, needs little water once established, and is deer resistant. The cream stripes show best in shade or bright, indirect light. Full sun will scorch the leaves.

Come see it at Cane Row Nursery, 1500 S Bernard Rd in Broussard. Our staff is happy to help you pick the right spot for it.
